Administration officials at the University of Central Florida have decided to pass on the concept of bringing an organic grocery store to the intersection of University Boulevard and Alafaya Trail.

Two developers — Houston-based Weingarten Realty Investors Inc. and a partnership between Orlando-based Unicorp National Developments Inc. and Real Property Specialists Inc. — had proposed to develop the 11-acre parcel into an organic grocery story; Unicorp’s had a $40 million build-out cost to it.

Chad Binette, spokesman for the school, said they have decided not to move forward because “after reviewing the two proposals we received, it became clear that the project would not generate sufficient rental income.”

Binette said the school will not look for new proposals that may generate more rental income.
